Energetic Alignment Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is Reiki?  Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese technique for stress and relaxation that also promotes healing.  It is a spiritually guided energy connecting to the energy system in your body.  Reiki assists in opening up, clearing, and balancing or aligning your energy system to promote healing.  It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.  If one’s life force energy is low, blocked or out of alignment, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, free flowing and in alignment, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

2.  Where did Reiki Originate?
Reiki was founded/discovered in Japan in 1914 by Dr. Mikao Usui.  Rei means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki means “life force energy”.  So Reiki is actually a spiritually guided life force energy.

3.  What is a Reiki session like?
Healing is a very personal and individual experience.  Most people describe a treatment as feeling like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you.  Everyone has had different experiences in their life which directly affect their energy system.  Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and wellbeing.  Many have reported miraculous results.  Each Reiki session varies depending upon the individual and the healing that is being required.  In general, Reiki sessions are very relaxing and comforting to people.  After a brief introduction you will be asked to lay fully clothed on a massage table, mat on the floor, chaise lounge, or you can sit in a comfortable chair.  A blanket will be available if you get chilled.  Relaxing music, lighting and therapeutic grade essential oils can also enhance your experience.  Since I am concentrating on your energy system I do not talk during a Reiki session unless giving a demonstration or if you initiate it.  Many people fall into a light sleep during the session.  Some people feel sensations such as heat, tingling, waves, heaviness, lightness, pulsating, swirling, or breezes.  Some people see colors or pictures, hear words, music, pleasant scents, or experience memories.  Each Reiki session varies as it is personalized just for you and your needs at that particular time.  Reiki always works to heal for your highest good because it is a loving energy source.

4.  What should I wear to a Session?
Wear comfortable clothing, remove glasses, shoes and unnecessary heavy jewelry.  It is important for you to feel completely comfortable.  Leave cell phones off so there are no disturbances during your session.

5.  What if I am seeing a Physician, Psychologist or other complimentary care provider?
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.  It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect.  It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.  Reiki is a wonderful compliment to all other treatment and care.  Reiki does not interfere with medication (although you might find that it may reduce the amount needed). Reiki should not take the place of licensed medical care.  Reiki compliments many other treatments such as chiropractic, acupuncture, counseling, physical therapy, Chemotherapy, radiation. You are encouraged to let your physician know you are receiving Reiki so that they can take it into account as your symptoms and overall wellness improve.

6.  Do I have to understand what Reiki is for it to work?
No, Reiki can be difficult to grasp. Experiencing Reiki sessions is the only way to better understand how it can help you.  Just like you have a circulatory system and muscle system you have an “energy system”.  The more you receive Reiki the more your energy system “remembers” to keep the pathways clear and not hold onto the emotions, thoughts, feelings, and other things that are not good for you.  If you are open to at least trying Reiki, you will receive the energy on some level.  There are many layers to your energy system.  As an experienced Reiki practitioner I work to un-layer, align, balance and restore your energetic system for your best possible healing.

7.  How often should I receive Reiki?
It would be wonderful to receive Reiki on a daily basis. However, unless you get trained in Reiki, that isn’t realistic. Like most practices that encourage better health (diet/exercise) it is best to incorporate Reiki as a part of your health routine.  After an initial visit, we will discuss how often would be best for you to receive Reiki based on what I felt during your session and your goals. I have found that those who receive Reiki 2-4 times a month have reported the most benefits. I encourage you to receive 4-6 initial sessions.  Ideally 2 sessions per week for the first two weeks and one session per week for the second 2 weeks.  This will open you up, begin balancing and restoring your energy system.  From there you can evaluate your progress deciding what is best for you.

8.  Can Reiki help with mental and emotional stress?
Absolutely.  Reiki has a huge impact on shifting negative thoughts and emotions back to a positive state of mind.  Reiki is a great tool for manifesting the life that you want.  It may take several treatments and depends on what you do in between sessions to help with your own personal healing.  Reiki can help with depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, grief, eating disorders and more.  If you are seeing a licensed counselor, Reiki can be used to compliment that work to promote healing on emotional, mental, and physical levels.  The more open and honest you are with your Reiki practitioner, licensed counselor, and yourself, the more successful your treatment will be.

9.  Can I receive Reiki during Cancer Treatments?
Yes, we are seeing more and more complimentary care practices as Cancer Centers and local hospitals, Physicians, and Nurses are quickly recognizing the benefits of relaxation and healing that can take place during Reiki sessions and the positive affect it has on patients.  Some examples are less pain, less pain medication needed, less nausea, feeling of comfort, clarity in making decisions, spiritual connection, and feeling back to normal after treatments.  Reiki should be used only as a compliment to your medical and physician treatment plan.

10. Should I receive Reiki when I have no apparent physical or emotional issues?
Yes, there are always underlying stress and factors that we many not see or feel on the surface.  I highly recommend experiencing Reiki on a regular basis for general well-being and overall preventative health.  Many people use Reiki to help maintain low blood pressure, reduce stress, for better sleep, as relaxation and other preventative measures just as they do with diet, exercise, and meditation routines.

11. Does Reiki have any religious affiliations?
No.  while Reiki is spiritual in nature, but it is not a religion and is not connected with any religious organization.  Since energy and love are universal - so is Reiki.  People from all religious backgrounds practice and receive Reiki.  Reiki has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki.  In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not.  Because Reiki comes from God (aka the Divine) many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept.

12.  Should Christians practice Reiki?
Yes.  Many Christians, including Nuns, Priests, and Ministers use Reiki.  Because Reiki is a laying on hands technique similar to what Jesus used, it is especially appealing.  John 14-12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me, can do the same miracles that I have done, and even greater things than these you will do.”  Mark 16-18 “They shall lay on hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”  A website dedicate to Christian Reiki is: www.ChristianReiki.org

13. Can I learn Reiki?
Yes !!!  Everyone has the ability to learn Reiki.  Since we all have an energy system we all have the ability to tap into it for our better health.  Many people want to learn Reiki to be able to give it to themselves on a daily basis.  They can also share it with their children, pets, family, and friends.  Once opened up to Reiki energy you will always have the ability to access this type of healing.  If you are interested in taking a class, please go to “Classes/Events” at NaturesDivine.net or contact me by phone or email.  Beyond our regularly scheduled classes, I would be happy to put a special class together for you and your family and friends.

14. Who is using Reiki?
Many hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, nurses, massage therapists, holistic health care practitioners are using Reiki and other energy healing modalities.  Reiki in Hospitals
